SIT Balkans’ cooperation with local community
Seeking to create deeper and stronger relationship with local academic community, SIT Balkans has opened its Journalism Track to various forms of program that included students from Serbian universities. The Journalism Track also offers cooperation to local media’s young journalists who would partner with ISPJ students during a semester and report stories together with them.
Two students of Belgrade-based Faculty of Media and Communications at Singidunum University attended the Journalism Track program in Fall 2015 semester along with ISPJ students. A young journalist working with Vice Serbia took part in the program in Fall 2017.
In Spring 2017 semester SIT Balkans implemented a joint journalism workshop that included ISPJ students and English literature students from the International University of Novi Pazar in southwestern Serbia.
During the two weekend workshops – one in Belgrade and another in Novi Pazar – the students explored together basic journalism principles, ethics, fact checking, elements and structure of a feature story. They also worked together on some assignments, exchanged views on cultural differences and common generational issues and held peer reviews aimed at editing and improving the stories they wrote.
